I try not to water much either, at least for me. I water for my landlord - his flowers, he doesn't live in this building anymore, but for me it's good to not have him dropping by 3-4 times a week to water. He wants them watered so I do them, straight from the garden hose, whereas I water my stuff from the rain-water barrel. However, just a few days ago I read that watering flowers from time to time during a heatwave is useful for bees etc because flowers will only produce nectar if they have enough water.
