"Rememberings" by Sinead O'Connor

I have been reading this memoir for the last couple of weeks. There are many lines in this book that I have copied down as quotes because she seems to speak a truth that is in me, too. Her style of writing, of telling her stories, feels like an extension of herself, like the way she uses her words are also her Self.

Many times I felt that I could hear myself reflected in her feelings and experiences.

Warnings:

I haven't finished it yet, but so far there are brief descriptions of FOO violence.

As I have been reading, I have thought that many of us might be able to find ourselves in her story, and feel understood.

I am also reading "My Life With Wolves" by Rick McIntyre. His description of watching wolves for decades as a naturalist. Fascinating study of the variety of animal relational behaviours, much like there is a variety of human behaviours.

I am interested in books other people are reading. Not recovery resources explicitly, but novels, memoir, stories, non-fiction....

Please share if you feel so inclined!

Interesting. I had not heard of her memoir. I may have a look at it.

I have just finished "Shuggie Bain" by Douglas Stuart. It's a hard read unless you know Glasgow slang words (which I do) but is a very, very emotionally hard read too. I'm glad I read it, though.

I'm currently reading "The Trial" by Kafka which feels very much like the experience of living in a narc FOO.

Just wanted to add an interesting bit about Kafka - he was subjected to N abuse by his father which is likely why "The Trial" resonates Narc Kiddo.  See here.

I've got "Shuggie Bain" on hold on my library app. I'll let you know, @narckiddo, if I am stumped! It's an audio book so I might have to slow down the speed.  ;)

I've heard of Kafka over the years but don't really know what it is. I'll have to look that one up, too.

My husband listened to Shuggie Bain on audio book. It's very clearly narrated, and the accent is Scots but not heavy Glaswegian so you should not have trouble with that aspect except for some parts where characters are speaking and an accent comes in.

Very interested in both SineadO'Connor and the Wolves book! I can't seem to focus well on books lately but adding these to my list, thank you for sharing these!

This article mentions Virginia Woolf. I just finished listening to her book "The Lighthouse". Such an interesting style, challenging.
