What is Organized and Ritual Abuse (ORA)?

ORA refers to organized and ritualistic abuse, mainly of children but also of adults. According to the site  First Person Plural it is "a complex mix of sexual, physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual abuse. The justifying faith or belief system's rituals include one or more of these and other features:- use of ceremonial objects, special places (e.g. churches), special dates (feast days), costumes, nudity, secret symbols and/or languages; taking of alcohol/drugs, hypnotism, ingestion of bodily fluids/excretions or other non-food items, actual or simulated human/animal sacrifice, torture, sadistic, unusual sexual activities and physical punishments."
