"Best friend" keeps asking for gifts, hard to move on

I have figured out my "best friend" is taking advantage of me. I barely see her anymore but she keeps asking me for gifts. Says I love her (platonically). But I know I don't owe her a gift if I barely even see her. It's just frustrating because I'm so isolated and don't really have a lot of people. But I know real friends treat each other well as an equal partnership and actually hang out. It's just going to be really hard to move on past this. I won't have anyone to share my secrets with anymore.

I'm sorry. But I'm glad you realise you don't owe her gifts.

Thanks.  Yeah, me too.

I'm sorry your friend is doing that.  Part of me wonders if maybe she's just gotten used to getting gifts from you, and is going through something as well.  Have you tried talking to her about it?  That said, I have historically given way too many 2nd and 3rd and 4th chances, so me asking that is probably wrong.  I'm pretty isolated as well.  It sucks. But this forum has helped me feel a lot less alone.  Hopefully it can do the same for you as well.

Hey 8888, like Zen Racer I was wondering if you could talk to her about this? If she is upset or moves on then at least you have enforced your boundaries and spoken your truth. Knowing you can do this is empowering and that can go a long way to choosing new friends you sense will respect you and not overstep.

I have not given her too many gifts in the past.  Good to know, I hope it will help me too.

Yeah, I think I will talk to her.  That's true, and I could definitely use some empowerment lately.
