Thanks, san

It's flared up again today, though not so much pain as difficulty swallowing. Partially probably because I feel a bit stressed. More on that in my Journal. It's good to know though that it's cptsd-related and not anything to panic about. Just take things easier, or try to.

Sending hot tea, a warm cozy blanket, a  :grouphug: and a good book BB.  When I get  the "stress flu" (great term!) rest and less stress are what seem to bring it down.

This is a very old thread.

Yesterday I couldn't fall asleep because I was too cold despite being in my sleeping bag with a summer duvet on top and a thick woolen blanket on top of that and my head in my sleeping bag. I was shaking with cold. Literally. In my language it is called 'shaking cold' or even 'fever cold' and it's a flu symptom especially when you have a raised temperature or more especially fever.

Last night I got up and got a bunch more woolen blankets and even put the heating up, was able to warm up and fall asleep. Woke up not so many hours later feeling as if my face is on fire and with the usual sore throat, roof of my mouth, gums and ears. Plus way too hot and sweating. I'm now lying on my sleeping bag, and the heating is off, I checked.

I also googled this 'shaking cold' plus 'psychological origin' and there was immediate correlation. There could also be a plain old physical reason, of course. That was mentioned too. I've forgotten the word for my emotion on discovering google makes a correlation. Elation is probably too much, but something along those lines. The medical world is finally getting it!  :woohoo:

Whatever the cause of this, I really hope you feel better soon. Thanks also for mentioning it. I have certainly had occasions where I have gone to bed feeling utterly cold for no reason. Sometimes it turns into flu but quite frequently it vanishes as suddenly as it came on. I have always put that down to hormonal fluctuations, but of course my state of mind could well be driving the hormones. I'm going to start paying more attention.

dear blueberry, i do hope you feel better soon, whatever the reason behind it.  i sometimes get these symptoms with stress flu, including going from shivering cold to way too hot/feverish.  and feeling miserable underneath it all.  resting is the only thing that clears this up for me, but it's a sign to me that i've done too much, or gotten over-stressed myself for whatever reason.  it's horrible.  sending hot liquids, cool liquids, whatever you have a taste for, if anything.  i just hope it isn't something worse.  love and hugs,

Thank you! I rested all Sunday and most of today. I do feel better now and think I can manage a few things.

I did think of you and your stress flu, that's partly why I posted on this part of the forum - good to let others know this is actually a thing!

The explanation I found put it down to anxiety, at least as a possible cause, rather than cptsd, but anxiety is one of my biiiig symptoms so that makes sense. (I don't mean to say that your stress flu is due to anxiety) I do have a fair 'history' of lying (feeling as if) shivering under the bedclothes when in an EF, but this time I was actually shaking. Actually I remember now that standing up and making yourself shake is used in some of the healing retreats I go on, that helps 'get rid of stuff' because lots of feelings, memories and who knows what come up in these retreats.

I like this. Really fits in with what I was experiencing this time. Also makes sense for retreats because that energy excess is going to be compounded in a group and lead to not so good group dynamics if not dealt with.

I woke up this morning, late, and the mouth pain etc are all gone. I think it's good I did not follow thru on what was planned Sunday/Monday tho. This was probably telling me that I needed a break.

NK, I'm learning that one can have "histamine dumps" at night and that histamine is a body temperature regulator. In addition to hormones, it might be beneficial to look at foods you've eaten before bed, or throughout the day and whether or not they're high in histamine. Right now, I have "tried out" decreasing my mast cell/anti-histamines to once a day, and like clockwork, I'm having itchiness/skin issues show up almost every night around 8/9pm. I'm also having it in the morning as well, which is somewhat new.
