I have tried everything. Even Kizzie wrote me back with directions on how to use the emoticon function and believe me when I tell you that I feel.... Well, you know... how many people have to ask HOW TO PUT A SMILEY IN YOUR POST????

My computer just spent a couple of days at the Geek Squad hospital and the tech said my settings are fine....

Help? I'm feeling all kinds of left out cuz I can't give hugs like all of you do...   :)

i'm afraid i am  a luddite, so i have no idea how to solve that problem for you, but i want to thank you for making me laugh (No, not at you!). i just this minute posted a post about the problem i have understanding the term dissociation, and mentioned that my T told me i don't know how to differentiate or identify my emotions...  so in a sense i have the same problem as you, my emoticon function won't work...

well, it cheered me up anyway

hope u get it sorted, Lifecrafting!

I just looked at my post and there's a confused face and a smiling face!!!!!
OK, now I'm totally weirded out by this whole thing!

What I did, was hit the colon key and the parenthesis key, like we have been known to do before the whole emoticon thing... and viola! There is a smiley! I have no idea how the confused face got there...neither was in the preview...

But that still doesn't explain why I can't use the emoticon function.

Arpy, you made me laugh too! What a great thing we can have fun with this stuff.  My computer seems to have a little trickster thing goin on; I guess I can just keep laughing rather than being freaked out by it, yeah?

definitely. the thing is with technology, never let it smell your fear.....

Lifecrafting, I'm guessing you typed four question marks and it turned three of them into Confused Face. That's the manual way to make it, just like you made a happy face by typing the colon and parenthesis. :)

I have no idea why the emoticon panel isn't working for you, though, unless you have scripts blocked somehow (as with a browser add-on like No Script or uMatrix)

It just occurred to me to mention that the emoticons don't appear in the text box that you type in, but only in the actual post. So if you clicked on this

for instance, it would only show up in the text box as the word yes with colons on either side. Not sure if that helps, but I've noticed a couple times that people have thought the emoticons were broken because they didn't know that they only show up in the actual post. I remember when I thought that, too.  ;)

many of the smileys you can also type manually. If you hoover over the smileys, you'll see a 'name'. for example:  " applause ". Add a colon on either side and you'll get :applause: .

Lifecrafting

:???: Yep, that one worked.

:pissed: Yep, that one too.                                                 Oh boy....

OK! I got it. Thanks everyone! I'll check my scripts again, Thanks Mourningdove.

I'm better now     Thanks to you, my smiley savvy friends...  :yourock: :fireworks:

Through a shear stroke of luck I've discovered there are more smiley-codes that actually work on this site:
Type the name with a colon in front and aft. Like this :name:

:witch: - witch

:dramaqueen: - dramaqueen

:jumping: - jumping

:yahoo: - yahoo

:groovey: - groovey

 - cheers

:kisscheek: - kisscheek

 - roll

:blahblahblah: - blahblahblah

 - mad

:ninja: - ninja

:grouphug: - grouphug

:udawoman: - udawoman

:elephant: - elephant

:banaaana: - banaaana

Dyess

Cute especially the dramaqueen :) Wish I had that last night.

Kizzie

I'll see if I can add a few of these into our little group - easier than typing in the words each time.

Kizzie

OK, done.  Click on "More" and you'll see some new ones.
