Hi everyone I am new here, I don't suffer from cptsd, however my partner does.   His therapist can't seem to help him, all she does is let him vent to her for an hour.  He no longer has coping skills.  The trauma that has caused his cpstd is something that is on going and I can't see this changing for a long time.   Pretty much we have been in the family courts trying to get shared custody of his now 7 year old son (stared when he was 3)  The mother lied about violence and now things have continued to get worse.  We have been paying $50 per hour just for a professional to supervise out visits.  It's so hard to get passed this because the cpstd has made it so hard for him to function that we can't move passed the supervised visits, yet how can he be better if having is son the they only thing to fix is trauma?

He is also facing some legal trouble.  I called 911 last year because he took a razor to his wrist, but because the city we live in is so small its the same police offices that have taken him to the hospital 6 or 7 times already.  So when they cam this last time they told me they were tired of getting called and dealing with him.  So they though taking him to jail would fix him right up and tech him to not be a winy baby.  So now I feel like I can't even call the police anymore if i feel like my partner is going to hurt himself.

And I have no idea how to help him, he feels like the only option is to kill himself, anything he likes and does positive for himself he destroys.  He is a photographer and he keeps tearing up his favorite ones, he punches himself in the head, and has to leave the apartment many times throughout the day because hes concerned he will break everything and the thoughts just make him more and more paranoid that he might do something wrong.

He has been on various medications throughout his entire life, and currently we us marijuana, but this is not a fix and all it does is make everyday life possible.

Any advice would be great.

Hi Brittaneynb

Welcome to Out of the Storm. And  for reaching out.
It's really a tough situation you find yourself in, and it's very hard that the local agencies cannot provide you and your partner with the help that you rightfully request. Perhaps the link If You are in Crisis might be of aid to you and your partner?

For partners of cPTSD afflicted people we have a section When Someone in Your Life has CPTSD and you may find some threads and posts there that may help you on this difficult period in your and your partners's life.

Last but not least I want to point out our Guidelines for All Members and Guests to you.

Welcome again,

Hi Brittaney and welcome to OOTS.  It sounds like your H is really struggling and could use some better professional help if his therapist and the ER have not been able to assist him. As Dutch has suggested, perhaps look at the links in "If You are in Crisis" and give one of the organizations a call. Hopefully they will have some realistic ideas on how to get your H the help he needs.

Unfortunately as a support group of non-professionals there is not much we can do except listen, provide some info about CPTSD and point you in the direction of resources.  It seems from what you have said that  a professional who is willing and able to help is what's needed first and foremost.
