Hi

I just registered and figured this is where to come to introduce myself.

I'm from southwest England and my 40th birthday is looming.

This forum caught my attention as I have CPTSD after growing up in an abusive environment  :'( and also having bad new and continuing relationships as an adult too. I have been having therapy for a couple of years although it feels slow going, and I thought getting involved in an online community and sharing info with others might help, both me and others. I've just bought the Pete Walker book which I've heard a lot of good things about.

Look forward to contributing and meeting people.

Hi Lissie

Welcome to Out of the Storm. I am glad you have found us and decided to join us.

At OOTS, we welcome people who are dealing with cPTSD through a variety of life's events that befell us. Alas is the big common denominator that we have been in long term abusive relationships. Like you, for many of us since childhood in an abusive Family of Origin (FOO) and beyond.

In the cPTSD Glossary you may find a lot that may resonate with your experiences. A few highlights to start your journey with:
On cPTSD
Pete Walkers book is an excellent resource as well, and he gives excellent advise and tools on how to overcome the effects of cPTSD. It's a wonderful guide for recovery.
On Boundaries is a useful tool as well.

I too look forward to seeing you around and I hope you'll find this place comfortable enough to share some of your experiences, both from the past and those in the present.
Our Guidelines for All Members and Guests are here to ensure this a safe environment for you and it will give you an idea of the community we create with each other.

What a lovely welcome. There are some great resources here.

The boundaries information is particularly useful as that is what I am trying to work on at the moment. I can see I have quite a lot of searching round the site and reading to do!
Thank you!
