Hi all. Im from western Canada. C-PTSD with avoidance behaviours here. I'm only 6 months into this journey. I've been in substance misuse recovery, continuously without using, for three decades. I went from living on the streets of Toronto and Vancouver with a Gr.8 education, to long term recovery and 5 years post secondary education. It took quitting or being fired from multiple jobs to see a pattern later in life. I finally realized that I was bringing negative personality traits into most of my interpersonal relationships. So I fought for a professional psych eval. which brought me my official diagnosis. From my very basic knowledge at this point, I appear to be a classic result of long term childhood developmental trauma. And I have most of the recognized traits of the disorder. I start EMDR in September. And I am grateful for the opportunity. May you find peace and love on your journey.

Welcome to the forum, Up.  I have not been on a recovery journey very long either.  I'm currently working with a therapist developing a timeline of my past trauma so she can create a plan for using EMDR.  We will get to point soon, and I'm excited to see how it goes.  I hope it's a positive experience for both of us.

Thank you. I'm grateful to start EMDR also. I have a bit of a wait but that should give me time Finnish Van Dir Kolks  book. But at the pace I'm going, a snail racing backwards might beat me to the line. ☺️ I wish you a nice day.

Welcome, Up. I've seen you around the forum, which is great, but had missed your intro post. Sorry for the delay in saying 'hi'.  :heythere:

I too missed your intro post so a belated but warm welcome to Out of the Storm Up.  :heythere:

You have come a very long way! I hope being here is helpful in your journey. Many members find connecting with other survivors makes a difference. There's something about "We get it", knowing none of what happened was your fault, and being part of a community that is quite healing.
