Medication / Re: CBD. Yea or Nay
April 12, 2019, 05:24:04 PM
Hi LilyITV
I am prescribed medical cannabis,  high levels of cbd for daytime use and thc for night.  I vape. You have concerns that the cbd might affect your progress in therapy and I guess it could help you immensely by helping you to speak more freely.  It helps me only have one trail of thought, so my IC is much less interfering, which allows me to be more productive. Sometimes I do regret vaping too much just before therapy,  because I feel like it's  not really being true to myself and instead of dealing with IC I'm drugging it... So it's a bit of a  yea and a bit of nay;)

General Discussion / Re: Just started EMDR
April 06, 2019, 07:10:54 PM
Hi LKC and welcome.
I personally think that for EMDR to be successful , one's window of tolerance has to be pretty strong. When I tried EMDR 2 years ago it did not go down well either as I wasn't prepared for such direct questions. You mentioned preparing yourself more for it through grounding etc so hopefully it will help make the treatment less traumatic for you. I know EMDR helps lots of people with cptsd but not everybody. An EMDR therapist told me she sees better results for ptsd than for complex.

Please Introduce Yourself Here / Hi there
April 05, 2019, 12:20:58 AM
Hi there,
I have been coming here almost daily for the past 6 months but haven't really properly introduced myself but I'm ready now. I'm 34, diagnosed cptsd, and I chose the name blackbird33 because I wear mostly black and I sometimes wonder how  free birds must feel when they are flying. I have 2 kids under the age of 10, and an amazing dog who is with me 24 hours a day.
This is the only forum I have ever visited and it has given me a feeling of being less alone.  So thank you for having me.

Yes I can relate to what you're saying.  My  m gave away the only 2 things in the world that gave me joy.  My beautiful dear dog, and my piano. Came home from school and they were gone.

Hi the truth
I take escitalopram 10mg daily. Have done for over a year. I think it's more or less the same as what you are planning on taking. It has reduced my anxiety quite abit . And lifted my mood too. 15mg was too much it left me feeling like a zombie. Definately recommend it. Unfortunaltely hasn't helped whatsoever with nightmares or flashbacks. But at least fhe anxiety has diminished!
Start it slowly. Quarter tablet for 4 days, then half for 4 days until you go up to a whole.
Best of luck! BB

General Discussion / Re: Has anyone changed their name?

I did a name change last year to rid myself of a middle name that is a trigger for me -named after someone from my FOO  . Best thing I've ever done:)

John Mayer,  in the blood.
This song probably hits home for quite a few of us on here.
