Title: Three good things a day
Post by: Elphanigh on April 18, 2017, 02:40:03 PM
I am hoping this is the right spot to post this. I spent a long time trying to decide where I thought it might fit best. To make one of my better days useful to both myself and more importantly everyone here I wanted to share something that has helped me. It is a simple concept, but over time it really does seem to have an affect.

I learned this from someone else, because they were kind to share. Here's the concept:

Write three good things in your day (no matter how small. Sometimes mine were just that I had a good cup of coffee, or that someone smiled at me, or even that I got out of bed) They can be feelings or achievements, whatever you can find that is good. I also write three productive things but that came later. I keep mine in a really pretty journal and occasionally share it with a group online that are all working on this. I thought it would be useful to this group. I know it sounds really small but being able to think about it and then see over the weeks how it gets easier to find something good is amazing. It helps me even on my worst, triggered and down in a dark hole kin of days. I hope it can help someone here as well

I had a thought and I will share mine, but if you have no where to put them and want to try it maybe just write it in here as a recovery tool. as an example mine today will be a good cup of coffee, someone complimented my outfit, I was able to post here in hopes of helping someone.   and encouragement to everyone

very clever, elphanigh.

my 3 things for today are that i breathed, did my stretches, and talked to my brain in a very nurturing way.

thank you for this.  i look forward to more.

I am glad to be of some help Sanmagic7. I am so glad your talked to your brain in a nurturing way. That can be so hard
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: sanmagic7 on April 19, 2017, 12:46:59 PM
ya know, it can be hard.  i can hear an underlying voice wanting to berate my brain, take it to task, have those unrealistic expectations of it that were had of me.  i think that's why talking out loud helps (altho i may look crazy to someone else!  lol!) - it overrides anything neg. that might want to sneak in there.

these are the three things i want to do daily.  thanks, again, elphanigh, for the focus.  lovely.  big hug to you.

I struggle with the same sanmagic7.  I am really glad you are trying so hard to work through the expectations that were put on you. If it helps I talk to myself all the time to accomplish it as well, it does truly help lol.

I think those three things are great goals to do daily  :)  You're welcome, I am glad I could be a helpful hand. Big hug to you as well

My three things for today are:
I ate a good breakfast, I got on here, and I tried to speak kindly and be compassionate to myself after almost rear-ending someone instead of beating myself up about it
Title: Re: Three good things a day

My three things are that it is beautiful outside, I got out of bed on time, I helped another person today.
Joyful, those are great. I am glad you didn't get hurt and were kind to yourself. It happens

Elphanigh, that sounds a bit like Little Book of Daily Joys, except that you're limiting yourself to 3, which could be very good for overachievers / People who put themselves under too much pressure. I kept a a Joy Diary for a few years and it was really helpful.

Three Good Things today: I managed to stay in my Adult person all day while I was with a very young friend; I had fun with my little friend; the sun kept coming in and out all day.

Blueberry, it is basically that, I have never kept a full one just the three daily one. Limiting it to three was how I was taught, and is really good for my perfectionist brain :)

I like that, since I have a tendancy to focus on the negative and dismiss the positive.

Today:

- I had dinner with a friend and I told her about my C-PTSD and she was very open
- I love my 2 coworkers
- ...?  :Idunno:

Sorrygirl, Those are two great ones. I am sure you can find a third before the end of your day. remember it can be super small. I applaud you for finding two  :applause: I know just how hard that is.

3 things today:

...I hauled about 6 months of accumulated garbage bags to the area's collection center, rescuing the kitchen from gathering point to food area

...speaking of food, was able to dive in to some new yummy items today that I've been wanting to try

...heard from the organizer/facilitator of the attitudinal healing (+ more, I hope) event I'll be attending next week. Little details as I'm coming from a distance and will need some things; she is so helpful and caring  :)

...as a bonus, heard a fantastic cello performance on the radio

Three good things for TODAY:

1 - I got to listen to a radio program I enjoy and find helpful - on the way to work tomorrow.
2 - My desk wasn't a disaster after taking a 1/2 day vacation yesterday.
3 - It's early and my day is already taking shape to be a good, if very busy, one.

This is going to be harder today for me. It is not even 9:30a.m. here and the day is off to a crappy start. For the sake of finding some positive I am going to do this early today, hoping to carry it with me today.

1. My coffee was great today
2. I did leave on time to work
3. I ordered the Pete Walker book and it should be here today
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: Blueberry on April 20, 2017, 06:38:22 PM
1) I made myself a spice tea, which has to be simmered on the stove for 15 minutes (so it's more effort). It tasted really good and I'm using up food stores instead of buying new things.
2) The sun shone all day
3) I picked some bright yellow flowers to put in my apartment

Fantastic idea! I'm going to get a little book for my bedside for this. Ironically, haven't got out of it yet! So... thus far

1) Lovely sleep in
2) I feel calm
3) warm

It's a CBT technique!  :) I've been doing it for the past year... some days I forget, I confess!
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: Elphanigh on April 25, 2017, 01:09:34 PM
So glad everyone is still using this. Blackbird, It is good to know where it comes from. I haven't done much CBT although I have read a lot about it.
My three good things are coming early today because I feel well this morning.
1. I feel good after my session last night (nothing like last time)
2. I work up to a very loving cat this morning
3. I made it early to work today
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: Blueberry on April 25, 2017, 08:14:49 PM
1) Having read above that this is a CBT technique then I can safely say that I have tons of experience in CBT ( I had been wondering exactly what CBT involves, the description I found didn't help me)

2) After missing my train to T today and therefore losing one of my precious 20 appointments and having to pay for it on top of it all (med. ins. doesn't pay if you don't turn up), I forgave myself really quickly. I know this because I didn't fog up, feel paralysed, go back to bed, or do anything self-destructive. Instead I got on with various jobs around the house, which felt very satisfying, and listened to music while I was about it.

3) watching my pets cavort

San, I am glad you are finding that :)  I am going to do a second three since I did mine so early and it has been a long day.

1. I stayed more focused today
2. I finally managed to get my apartment list out
3. I finally found a safe space to create for EMDR that is starting to work. I have never felt safe, so I am learning to do that

Thank you so much! I was surprised to find that I have one. I am struggling to stay there in my mind very long but I am working on it. The fact it exists makes it possible to try. The last one I tried to make into that mental safe space failed pretty badly.

Elphanigh - Surrounding you with hugs and with joy and safety. I can't imagine anyone wanting to dampen your joy in life - it's such a strong part of you! I may only be one person, but I'll do all in my power to help keep you safe here. You have helped make this a better place to be. Thank you!

Yesterday's three things (happened last evening)
1) Daughter chose a puppy to keep when it's time
2) Son isn't coughing so much, neither am I
3) I spent time with DS and it meant the world to him, again!

Today's three things
1) I let a friend know how much she is loved, I didn't put it off!
2) I've already made three people smile at work, just for being me - and only one was laughing AT me - and that was even ok :-)
3) I felt good as I got ready this morning. I still feel good, even after an in-depth discussion about puppies and worms with DS.

 again to Elphanaigh for this thread.

Wife2, one person makes all the difference sometimes. That means a lot to me. I am glad to be surrounded by hugs and safety. I appreciate you helping keep me safe here. This forum is a first for me, and maybe why I could find the one safe memory I did have. Thank you for seeing the good and joy in me.

I am so glad this thread has been helpful. If I can have helped one person I have done some good :)

My three good things today:

1. I got all the Indiana accounts done, without too much anxiety!
2. My partner bought me one of my favorite coffees
3. Some of my work load is getting shuffled to a new girl so I will have less work stress starting today

1)While I've been posting on here, I kept getting up to move to music, especially allowing my body to dictate the moves (rather than my head). Sometimes I've even been thumping my feet on the floor which helps ground me. I really like moving to music.

2)i spoke to a potential employer again, after turning the job down myself a week or two ago, to say I could try the job out for a couple of hours next week and the week after.

3) And he was agreeable to that. I know I will be paid for it.

These are difficult today and I didn't do them yesterday so here is my best try at both.

Yesterday
-I had a fabulous lunch
- I stood up for myself and let my thoughts be heard
- I focused at work for most of the day

Today (It is early but her is what I have right now to hold on to)
- I got out of bed on time to be at work
-There is bagels at work (will get them when I am done posting here)
- The rain smells amazing

I will go through and read this as I go today. I think good is going to be hard to hold onto.

My son feels better than yesterday.

He made his own chocolate milk this morning, after getting ready early.

My boss bought me a biscuit as a month-end surprise (got one for all her staff, which was really nice).

Elphanigh

I have been following this thread, and because of it I have been writing three good things a day in a little diary next to my bed each night before sleep. I cannot believe how good I'm feeling in myself because of it, thank you for starting this.

But it doesn't stop there, you have truly inspired me, and I have a plan. Will write about it in another thread.... :woohoo:

Hmm, Contessa, one of your good things could be, 'not a slave to a clock!'

For yesterday:
1) I helped a friend, who I hope to help even more real soon
2) All six puppies have their eyes open
3) I had a good day at work

For today:
1) I will pay a bill on time and with resources I actually have.
2) I will make healthier choices on beverages - after my morning coffee
3) I am feeling hopeful today.

Haha I do that sometimes to Contessa. I had to look at post times to check it out. I was curious as I do ahve friends in some weird places in the world. Some like 6 hours or more different. Sounds like you are in that boat. Although the southern hemisphere sounds fun! I have never actually been.

Here are my three things kind of early.
1. I feel like I actually slept for once
2. Actually ate a healthy breakfast
3. I am smiling because posts on here

Those are wonderful things Wife2! I do as well enjoy a morning cup of coffee or two. I applaud you for making good drink choices after your one cup  :cheer:

Relaxed with a movie before bed.

Plus I loved being in the office earlu, much more productive.

This morning, I had some important realisations about the goals I'm setting myself

I had a quick conversation with my toxic client, where we both got our questions answered

I finished part of my Goals Chart and put that on my wall

I got my act together so to speak and went to attend a self-help group this morning. It had actually been cancelled, but this didn't bother me. It was just good that going got me out of the house and into the fresh air and onto my bike.

I went for another little cycle to take a borrowed item back. I was mindful of my senses, like looking at all the green leaves and hearing the river rushing and feeling the moist air on my face.

I did a round of Tapping to clear up some feelings from last night and it worked!

* I asked for help, from several people, and all responded with positive suggestions for a project I'm considering.

*My old demons have not haunted my nights for a week.

*I might have located an old friend I thought I'd lost contact with, who I know can help me out now.

All of these are connected to reaching out, a trait I'd always shied away from. Doing so has always stretched my comfort zone. Something's shifted, and it feels like a fresh breeze bringing peace.

Way to go Woodsgnome  :cheer:

I'm making an effort to smile to myself today and I notice it really does improve my mood for those few seconds

I gave my real opinion to a client which means: I accept your decision to not come for next few weeks but do not be surprised when your knowledge in the subject I teach does not improve. (She has sought to blame me in the past for lack of progress.)  We parted on good terms.

I have a new idea of how to simplify my teaching contracts and billing as of next school year. The idea came out of the blue, the way they often do for me.

1. I managed to leave for work early enough to get a good muffin and coffee on my way
2. I feel well rested
3. I can breathe today

The sun is shining.

I got out of bed with plenty of time to spare.

A few very important realisations.

This is going to be much harder today, but I have to do this. It is the days my life feels like it is falling apart that I need this the most.

1. I realize the need and have the gusto to do this
2. I have a great friend
3. I comforted my mom, when she needed me.

Those don't feel like much today but it is honestly all I have right now. The bad is speaking too loudly today

Ditto for me today, Elphanigh. That's why it's so good you started this thread. It's a good exercise for me to come up with 3 Things.

4. The existence of OOTS
5. My computer and Internet are functioning (without which I couldn't be posting on here)

I am glad it is so helpful for people. It is an important exercise. I am finding it truly important today.

4. My thread is still helpful today. It helps me see a different side of myself to counter some of the bad (see other posts)
5. This community is supportive and amazing

My three good things for today:

1) I stood up for myself and what I needed, even though it somewhat put out two employees and a customer at that place.
2) Because I stood up for myself, I wasn't late back from lunch.
3) Doing this freed up another time for other things like family.

This was a really, really big deal for me. In the past, I'd have quietly waited for the employee to finish helping the other employee and customer, knowing that I'd pay for it in my life if the wait became too long. I'd have been miserable, imagining the worst case consequences while appearing on the outside as patient and accommodating. Even as I imagined losing my job because I was late back from lunch, I would have remained silent. Today, I didn't. I spoke my needs and insisted. And all three ladies affected by my 'pushiness' were ok with it! None of them were mad!  :applause: @ myself!

Thank you, both, very much!

It's nice when we learn that standing up for ourselves doesn't cause the world to stop spinning and everyone to turn and look at us like we're horrible. It gets easier with practice. I only sat and panicked for about two minutes. And everyone was smiling and being pleasant when I left - proof that the world won't hate us for having needs or even wants!

As my day has gone on I feel the need to do another three. Separating this day into pieces that I can hopefully manage this way. Here's for my evening

1. I made it through work today
2. The kindness on this forum is beyond anything I could have ever expected
3. I have good dinner plans. Proper BBQ for the win
Title: Re: Three good things a day

Here's some good things for my day

1. I remained out of the self-deprecating cycle I was in yesterday (I got out quickly!)
2. I have decided to do something for myself rather than decide what is better for others
3. I have been shown extreme kindness the last two days that has given me  hope
Title: Re: Three good things a day

Three good things today:

1. I made it to work on time with coffee and gas in the car
2. I feel stable today despite everything going on in my life
3. I have told my potential roommates that I need to get a place of my own  because their timeline and needs don't match mine. This is a huge step because it is really hard for me to tell people no, and think for my own well being
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: Blueberry on May 12, 2017, 04:11:07 PM
1. I'm feeling a lot better than yesterday - more positive about the future.

2. I let my guinea pigs out for a run and sat and watched them racing around and I talked to them, which makes them happy and race around and hop and jump and bounce and do bucking broncos even more than usual.

3. I questioned the behaviour of a friend towards me a few days ago, but it's today I'm feeling that confronting her with this was a strong and courageous thing to do.

4. I've just allowed myself to construct a game to teach with. I like doing this but often don't allow myself because it's not a very lucrative activity. (How much time does it take up vs. how much money do I make by having more games for students?) But I like to do it, it's creative, and today I was using pencil crayons too (colour is good for me), and I also like reinforcing what I've taught with games.

Three good things yesterday

1. I finally took my guinea pigs to the vet
2. Walking through a flowery meadow on the way
3. The vet wasn't judgemental about the guinea pigs' condition after I said: very bad depression, I haven't managed to clean out their humongous living quarters so that's why one of them has dried droppings attached to his claw and I haven't been earlier with main problem (vet was just surprised because I usually seem so particular about my pets)
4. I finally let the guineas out for a run yesterday (and they're still running)
5. It was pleasantly warm and it wasn't raining.

Blueberry, those are some fantastic good things. I really hope you start to feel better soon.

I am going to add one more for today. My fourth one, is that the girls I was going to live with had the best reaction I could hope for. I chose for myself and for my own best interest. I am choosing to be selfish and to heal. I am choosing to have my own space so I can focus on it.

Three good things today
1. Lying in bed looking at all the greenery through the window
2. Had two long phone calls to friends
3. Finally got started on a job i should've started on thursday. Even though I didn't finish it I got further along than i thought I would.

Three good things yesterday
1. On the spur of the moment I decided to go on an organised bike tour after all
2. The bike tour was fun, I was able to keep up with the others and the information and guide at destination was very interesting. Despite the ominous black clouds  before the start, there was only a small shower on the way home. So all in all I was very happy that I'd decided to go after all.
3. I decided to take a break from the computer for the day.

1. It is beautiful outside
2. I tried a new brunch place
3. I am holding myself well together and managing emotions while helping my partner pack boxes in the car today.
4. I went to the clinic today when I had some really odd bug bite looking things. I normally wait until things get too bad

Things for today:
I enjoyed the teaching I did this evening and it went well, I did a good job.
I continued the job I finally started yesterday, which is housework and pet care related, not professional work.
I went into the garden to pick grass, and for myself various edible weeds.

1. It's a beautiful sunny day and warm.
2. My T is a bit of a distance away on a lovely lake shore so it felt a bit like being on holiday with the sun on the lake and people out rowing and sailing etc.
3. I went for a paddle in the lake. First paddle of the year.
4. Had a chat with a pair of ducks  ;)
5. Feel so much better and clearer after T.

Three good things for yesterday:

1) I didn't get picked for that jury
2) I didn't cry in the court room
3) My husband tried to be understanding

Three good things for today:

1) I got up, mostly on time.
2) Work has gone pretty smoothly.
3) Being busy at work has meant less flashbacks today.

I went for an organised bike ride this evening and although it was pretty strenuous I'm now feeling a lot better physically and emotionally. Even my head is clearer.
I'm back to wanting to do things rather than trying to force myself.

Thanks for the  :cheer: Elphanigh and wife#2.

Three Good Things Today:
1. another lovely sunny warm day right on into the evening
2. I picked some flowers like dandelions and daisies to decorate my apartment and office.
3. Spent some time in the garden with my Little Critters and while they 'grazed' I picked weeds for dinner, which is a kind of medidative task.
4. I'm back in a phase of getting some things done.
5. I feel moved, heartened and supported at all the replies coming into my Having a Bad Day post on not being able to work much + all that criticism from FOO.

Three Good Things Today
1. I allowed myself to do a lot of teaching prep of a fun variety (I'm pretty sure my Inner Children were involved)
2. I realised that I wasn't getting out of bed this morning because of a fairly small item on my Could Do list, which was however stressing me out. So I told myself I wouldn't do it, I didn't need to. Then I was able to get up.
3. I was able to do a little cleaning and tidying today.
Title: Re: Three good things a day

Three Good Things Today:
1. I had a long phone call with a good friend. We kept missing each other in the past few days, so it was good that we finally found a time we could both talk.
2. My cleaning and tidying was more methodical today, which is a good sign. The more methodical, the less EF.
3. I have a candle burning, i.e. I bothered to light it for myself.
4. Making myself spanakopita with weeds instead of spinach. I enjoyed the preparation, which I do not at all often when cooking, and it tasted delicious and I have this good feeling about picking rather than buying some of my food.

It warms my heart to see you guys still using this thread. I thought it might be useless when I posted it... I haven't been on for a few days but here are mine today.

1. I have practiced better self talk today
2. I cleaned around the house
3. I came on here and felt nothing but love and support

Things have been truly hard, but it is so good to see this post getting use. It also reminds me to do it as well
Title: Re: Three good things a day

I am going to do this earlier today, to get a good start.

1. I found out I have a much easier work load this week
2. I am still able to ground myself this morning
3. I can tell myself I have strength today and actually believe it.
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: Blueberry on May 22, 2017, 06:12:19 PM
1. I enjoyed having my window open with fresh air and the sounds of birds coming in.
2. I realised something must've triggered me because I didn't want to get up and stay up, so I didn't, just allowed myself to go back to bed and read and doze until I really had to get up.
3. I taught well this evening and enjoyed teaching the lesson.

Min. 3 Good Things in last few days:
1. Had another cleaning and tidying spree today
2. Yesterday when I brought my laundry in from the garden it smelled so fresh, almost sweet! It was amazing. It still smelt that way while I was folding it up and putting it away.
3. I brought some more fresh garden flowers into my apartment yesterday.

The rest of the good stuff I can think of off-hand is in my other recent posts.

I haven't been here in a while, hit a hard spot. Still, I'm back....

1) Son and I got up extra early today. It made the morning nice and relaxed.
2) Solved two problems that have been sitting on my desk a while.
3) Found the missing paperwork so my work will be very well completed today.

Another post reminded me of this thread and that I haven't written anything for a couple of days. I thought about it, maybe on Saturday, but felt embarrassed. Not Blueberry posting again. That thought written out makes me feel sad. How simple is it to write on this thread and how beneficial instead of going into an EF for the day. Maybe I would've had the EF anyway, but a little less long? Or less deep?

Min. Three Good Things in past couple of days:
1) I cycled somewhere on Saturday through lovely countryside.
2) I got there faster than I'd imagined, so maybe my fitness levels are improving a bit.
3) My apartment is full of flowers, most of which I'd pruned from the garden.
4) I refreshed my knowledge of wild plants and their uses, as well as learning some new ones and finally being able to distinguish three similar ones with purply-blue flowers.
5) Last week I was doing well with my eating-disorder
6) Finally bought two small items I've been looking for for a while, buying one of them certainly a self-care thing.
7) Coming onto OOTS even if it is the middle of the night, it's helping me process what's being going on last little while
8. On Saturday I taught using a game I permitted myself to make a little while ago. I remember posting on here that I'd permitted myself to make it, despite that being time-consuming compared to the usefulness of it in teaching. But here I was using it already and finding it useful for that student. Maybe the most useful thing being that it helped me? The game is a black and white printout which I wrote different things on, coloured in in places, and added a gold-coloured frame in crayon. Particularly the gold-coloured frame makes me happy.

Three Good Things today and yesterday
1. I allowed myself a nap this afternoon when I was feeling tired. The fact that I slept 2 1/2 hours solid meant I really needed it, too. I accept this of myself.
2. Yesterday I was posting on here on a difficult subject. I decided it to end my post and go to a film as planned, rather than keep posting. The film was only showing once, so it was then or never.
3. The film was good, interesting, moving, but sometimes hard to watch.
4. There was some violence and frightening moments. I did really well talking myself through them, better than last time that happened.
5. I came out profoundly grateful that I have never lived in a war-torn country or a country recovering from civil war.

I haven't done this or my five minute journal in a while. I need to be accountable to the journal especially but still to this as well. Here's for today

1. I voiced my feelings and need to have something to help me cope with my anxiety (this is huge)
2. I got to bond with another survivor
3. I get my new apartment keys tonight!
4. My back injury is getting better

Here are some good things for today
1. I have realized that I am starting to get my good relationship with music back by learning guitar (it was previously ruined in college)
2. I am starting to envision what my new space will look like
3. I had my favorite cup of coffee this morning

Three Good Things Today:
1) I went for a nice walk up in the hills out of town
2) There were different flowers blooming, as well as edible plants I've only just learned to recognise.
3) I threw a few things out.

Three Good Things Today
1) A friend phoned who also has CPTSD ( I know her from inpatient treatment) and we had a long, validating talk.
2) Afterwards I was able to stay upright instead of going back to bed, get myself first cup of tea for the day, make myself something to eat and even bother myself to go into the garden and pick some herbs to add to my meal.
3) I lay in bed reading for a long time today with the window wide open, enjoying the warm air and the breeze and fresh air coming in. I allowed myself to do this because I remember that I often have low-energy, low-motivation days when something's working away in my subconscious.

I haven't posted in here in a while. Has been a hectic weekend, and I have just checked the forum to write in my journal as needed (there was a lot somehow). Either way here is my mid-Monday three good things.

1. My T is so kind. I am financially really unable to pay for much. I was just going to not go in today because I couldn't pay her. Apparently she was already going to talk to me about reducing my fee today. We will see what we work out. Either way she shows great compassion for me. I think she sees all the damage done and wants to truly help.
2. The kindness of Wife#2 has made my day
3. I am sore but feeling accomplished because of getting a lot moved to my new place yesterday
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: Blueberry on June 05, 2017, 06:10:14 PM
I came back online on purpose to write on here.

1. I finally made myself a hot meal this evening and at least I had wholegrain in it (if no vegetables to speak of).
2. I went outside into the garden for a bit.
3. I posted on here earlier in the day which helped me sort out some of the stuff going on in my head and feelings.
4. I worked out what a new weed is in my garden - it's edible  ;)

Here is mine for the day. It has been a rough couple of days, but there is always something good
1. The kindness on the forum (this could be all three of my things, time and time again.) I could never have expected to see so much kindness and support. I am very new to my recovery journey and i didn't know there was such kindness out there.
2. I get to move my new chairs into my apartment today!
3. I opened up the my T about the fact I felt like I failed yesterday.

After a 'crash' emotionally following a 'high' from the intensive workshop I recently attended, I felt out of sorts today, until:

1. I checked email and there was an encouraging note from my intensive group 'support partner' regarding my upcoming knee surgery.

2. Then there was another one, from the group leader.

3. Finally I had a T appointment and she reaffirmed my path as one of  ups/downs, that I deal with that better now, and that I really have shown steady progress. The good thing is I kinda know that, but she reassures me it is real. It's exactly what I needed today.

I'm having a yuck day, so I'm going to come in here and remind myself of three good things. I really need this today.

1) I am healthy enough to work. I have a job. I even like my job.
2) I have a son who loves me. No matter how I feel about myself, he really does love me. I got two hugs this morning.
3) Our puppies are healthy. House-training is about 25% successful, but that is progress.

OK. Breathing. It's not as bad as I'm tempted to make it out to be. Those weren't even hard to come up with.

Wife#2, lots of warm hugs and gentle reminders that everything will be okay   I am right there with you today if you need anything at all.  Your goods are wonderful things.

Here are mine
1. Today is final moving day, I will finally not be split between apartments
2. I did a thing for myself today. I took the day off to finish the move so my anxiety doesn't peak and feel like it is crushing me again.
3.my cat is super adorable

1. I'm feeling better today - more energetic, it's easier to get a few things done
2. I finally washed my hair and had a shower.
3. I got some help with cleaning today, also did some cleaning myself, tidying up and threw a few things out.
4. Was in the garden for a couple of hours.
5. My little Furry Critters are super cute. The little boy was racing around in the garden - so cute.

These are going to be hard today, but that is when I need them the most.

1. It is beautiful outside and I took 10 minutes to just sit in the sun at lunch
2. I ate a bag of chips (bigger accomplishment than it sounds like)

These are going to be hard today, but that is when I need them the most.

Good on you, Elphanigh, for writing them in that case!  :cheer:  And once again, thanks for the thread.

My 3 Good Things:
1. I made plans to visit a friend in another town tomorrow since I haven't seen her in person for 2 years
2. I got a few things done like a bit of cleaning in an unexpected place, bought waterproof cycling pants (which will help me cycle more often), something I've been intending to do for about 2 years now.
3. I went into the garden, poked around, looked at what's growing.

A fairly 'new' friend (it's very hard for me to find friends) has emerged and so far has:

...found and assembled a walker (I have severe knee problems probably requiring surgery soon);

...brought me groceries when I was ill;

...been open, considerate, and understanding in sharing more than the 'hi, how are you/don't honestly answer' mindless chitchat.

2) My grown son gave the puppies their first bath overnight, so I awoke to clean and happy puppies.
3) I got up early enough that I was able to listen to the radio preacher I enjoy - he teaches and makes people laugh even if he's 'stepping on toes'.
4) I did enough yesterday at work that today will be easier!

Three good things:

1) Coming to this website, while sometimes sad, challenging and hard, is also a joy to my heart because of the people here.
2) My husband got up with me this morning (instead of sleeping in hours) and was pleasant.
3) I've been blessed with some insights that helped people. *

*These are from God, so if you've received one from me, enjoy! I'm not that smart. Bear with me if you're not religious, but... to God be the Glory. Thank you for giving me the words to encourage my friends and let them know you love them even better than I ever could.... And I love each of  you very much!

1. I finally had a tradesman come by to deal with my heating, which has been partially running in summer.
2. Finally this tradesman took the problem seriously, which means he took me and my complaint seriously (!),  and found a solution. (The previous tradesman who looked at the problem explained it away as being "normal" for this and that reason and I was in too much of an EF to be able to argue)
3. When I mentioned to the tradesman that the proposed solution - which I'll have to do myself every spring and fall - will be a bit tricky for me, since I'm not very good at 'handyman' jobs, he suggested I try it out right then and there! This was the best idea because when I do things myself, I learn them. (More on this in my Journal).
4. The scent of blossoms in the garden coming in through my open windows.

Lots of pain and anxiety lately; seeing the good seems elusive, but it's there and worth looking for (and usually finding, without much effort)...in my case,

1. I'm loving the comfotably warm (but not hot :cheer:) days, cool nights in these parts...ideal in my book.

2. Got to use my newly cleaned porch; the cat loves it too. It's back to where it should be--an ambient and meditative space.

3. Loons are active lately, and always toot a greeting when flying over, as well as doing their on-water talks and songs.

Mine for today:
I'm not sick in bed any more, but not working again yet either.
Spent lots of the day in the garden with my animals, gazing at them running around having fun (watching my animals is always good for me)
A major lightbulb effect thanks to a comment on here to me earlier today.
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: Blueberry on July 09, 2017, 10:11:02 PM
Mine for today:
1) Spent an enjoyable afternoon playing board games
2) In a threesome, one person was telling a long, convoluted story all about how terribly an old friend of hers had treated her. After about 15 minutes (with no sign of stopping) I managed to say to her that it was just too much for me listening for so long to all this negativity, especially since the other person had stepped outside to have a quick smoke. I realised that the talker was upset and needed to tell someone but I also took my own feelings into account - it was too much for me! It was much harder for me to say so, since I wasn't the only person in the room other than the talker.
3) All that cutting-back and herb-gathering I did in the garden (See The Cafe / The Potting Shed)

1) my friend who has been out on medical leave is back!
2) my husband, who is justifiably upset with me lately, got up this morning with me and accepted my hug.
3) The image of a 'healing porch' on this website has really taken off and helped people through rough or lonely days.

Elphanigh, thank you for this thread. It has helped to get me back into a proper alignment in my heart many days.

Mine today:
1) after therapy I sat on a bench by the lake side and dozed off, listening to the waves lapping on the shore and feeling the gentle breeze caressing my face
2) in therapy I was honest about feeling that I could maybe do more work at home for therapy, so we looked at why I'm hesitant to look at or feel into feelings at home. My T encouraged me to continue trauma-processing at home so that when therapy comes to an end, I will be able to keep working on my own. A very useful session.
3) I allowed myself a long nap again at home after therapy.

Three or more good things in last few days:
1) I set a definite limit with Troublesome Client and am now accepting myself even though I've lost her custom

2) On hearing strange noises from my gas-powered hot-water tank, I took my own fear of it blowing up seriously (even though I realised that's a Little Blueberry fear too - but one where Adult me can't calm self or Little One) and phoned a heating specialist, who couldn't come right away but could guarantee that it wouldn't blow up, it would at most switch off and go onto 'need maintenance' mode

3) I dealt very well with the situation of finding an injured magpie hopping around in my apartment - I arranged help for the magpie, but also dealt with my own feelings of fear and inadequacy, and I managed to catch the magpie and put it in a transportation box by myself. I didn't feel guilty for asking a friend to come and help me and then suddenly managing on my own before she arrived.

4) This friend understood my panicky feelings, didn't downplay at all, and she wasn't at all put out about cycling over to help and then finding I'd sorted out the problem by myself.

4) I am not feeling embarrassed or all apologetic about realising that the strange noises emanating from hot water tank must have been the magpie scrabbling around between the enclosed tank (with gas and flame) and the outer casing.

5) When I woke up a couple of hours ago (middle of my night) instead of lying around in bed, I acted on my impulse and did several rounds of EFT on things that I did / neglected to do yesterday evening. I also discovered some seemingly small issue from Thursday which is triggering for me. Doing EFT brought it back to the surface. And I realised during EFT that the magpie incident is still triggering fear, so that is something to put on the Processing Screen, today if possible.

2. I slept a full 8 hours last night.
3. I feel more like myself today.
4. I can remember that things aren't my fault from Thursday night. I will be okay
5. Am hosting game night today!

A few from last few days:
1) On Thursday I made it on time for an early appointment at the doctor's (I tend to be last-minutey)
2) I allowed myself to get the bus to the doc's because I felt exhausted; I didn't force myself to cycle.
3) I was singing with a group this evening and it was fun

Thank you so much for reminding me of this place by writing in it. Blueberry I am so glad you use it when you need it. I have been sucked into emotions and negativity, so I too need these.

1. I made it to work on time with breakfast
2. It is the last day of my work week
3. I can go to bed early tonight, for some self care

So a few good things from the last few days:

1. I won $15 from a $6 lottery ticket
2. I had a lovely afternoon looking around the local art gallery
3. I was finally able to let myself feel without trying to suppress it
4. I bought a copy of Dante's Inferno in Italian and English, to help me in learning Italian
5. My pronunciations in French are improving

Another day I need this a lot:
1) I taught well this morning and I really notice how my student is improving
2) I spent the afternoon lying down reading some books I got from the library - I allowed myself this in my exhaustion.
3) I had a good chat with a friend on the phone. We talked about healing for both of us and what's difficult atm but we also had a good laugh at various things.
4) I got a book from the library on flowers, which I have yet to look at. Something to look forward to.

It's early yet, but I still have three things already:

1) My son gave me extra hugs and kisses, because he felt like it!
2) No messes on the floor overnight - hurray puppies & dogs!! Well done!
3) Hubby didn't snap at me when I woke him up this morning. (I think he went back to sleep!).
4) My job is nerve-wrecking lately, but I do still have a job!

Oh, wait, that's four! Yeah.... today gets 4.  Everyone!
Title: Re: Three good things a day

1) I got up at all
2) I got ready for 2 clients
3) The first was ill and so she didn't come

P.S. Way to go puppies!  :cheer:

How could I forget??

4) Got results from latest blood test and everything is better to good except my underfunctioning thyroid. That's easily remedied: up the dosage again (we had experimented with reducing). Even my cholesterol levels are better than they used to be despite my rather unhealthy diet atm. Which is a big relief.

Those sound great you two! I haven't been super active on here in a few days. I have been reading but not writing so I have several today. I need to keep getting focused on them

1. I have a job offer, which means I can get out of my toxic office soon
2. I have an interview with another one today that I would prefer to the first one. It is good to feel like so many people have wanted to meet with me.
3. I get to see my friends tonight!
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: Blueberry on July 26, 2017, 10:33:25 PM
1) I finally ordered Karyl McBride's book on healing from narcisstic mothers and also van Kolk's book via inter-library loan, which is a lot cheaper than buying them. They'll have arrived by the time I get back from holiday and then I'll get to leap in.

2) Did some laundry finally.

3) Finished that contract work finally too.

So it has been a while but I need this today. It has been a long few days.
1. My dad is okay and seeming more like himself today
2. I have the night off finally!
3. I slept 9.5 hours ( I have been extremely exhausted) and finally feel like I am more human again
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: Blueberry on August 18, 2017, 09:02:42 PM
1) I feel that I'm interacting a bit more with my pets, but without letting pet care stress me
2) I wore perfume today
3)  Instead of buying something sweet to eat,  I had a relaxing bath
4) I'm a bit more energised to do things that need doing: I washed the dishes; I met with a probable new client; I did some work for a present client; I did a little cleaning and tidying

Blueberry, wearing perfume sounds like a nice idea. I'll try it tomorrow )
It's also great to have some energy to do things during the day.

I am not doing much cleaning or anything like that today, just finishing up the work I have to do on my computer.  Add watching web development  tutorials on YouTube. Happy to have my ability to concentrate back.
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: Blueberry on August 19, 2017, 06:23:51 PM
Thank you for your comment, Ruby. Wearing perfume, getting dressed in nice clothes, caring for my appearance or body in general - these types of things are very difficult for me emotionally. And trying to do them when it's too difficult makes me exhausted, close to collapse. Yesterday I didn't have the energy to put on appropriate clothing for meeting a new client, just a t-shirt and long shorts, but I managed to put on some perfume. It smelled good, so that did me good, and maybe the client noticed too. That would make me seem more like an adult woman than my clothes alone would do.

Three more good things:
1) Today I have more energy than in the last few days

2) I had to carry a laaaarge cardboard box to a friends' house because it might fit in their paper recycling bin (ours is too full) and on the way I joked to a man, who was loading waste cardboard including boxes from a department store into a truck to take them to a recycling depot, that he might like to have my box too. He said: "No problem! One more or less doesn't make a difference!" Took this huge box and threw it into the truck. I was so happy!! A) I didn't have to carry the box any further and B) I didn't have to try and cut it up to fit my friends' recycling bin  - their bin isn't full like ours, but it's smaller than the box. Sometimes things just work out well

3) I allowed myself a break this afternoon to 'sit and waste time', after doing lots of jobs, like cleaning...
4) I made a new jug of mint and lemon water. That's just tap water with mint leaves, lemon balm leaves and lemon juice in a jug in the fridge. Very easy to make, but I haven't had the ?? to make it for a good few weeks.
5) Instead of coming on here right away this evening, I checked my emails and ended up deleting 70 old ones. When I can throw things out (instead of being blocked and not being able to decide), then I loooove getting rid of things, even emails which don't really take up any room. 1) I continue to have more energy and get-up-and-go than this time last week
2) I got invited for lunch by friends, to their place, and had an enjoyable couple hours talking about this and that, like pets' antics  ;)
3) I turned down the project I was offerred yesterday, in keeping with what I decided for myself a few weeks ago

1) I managed to leave the house at 5am today in order to get where I wanted to be by 6am (getting up is difficult for me, so this was really a :applause: moment)

2) Lovely peaceful early morning cycle with next to no other vehicles on the road, especially few 4-wheeled ones. A lovely plant smell most of the way that put the word "sweet grass" in my head, but undoubtedly wasn't that. And bit by bit the sky lightening up.

3) Enjoyed doing a type of work today, which I only do max. a couple of days a year these days. Totally different from what I usually do. Physical work, with plants, lots outdoors, with my hands, chatting to animals...

4) In the evening a nice long soak in the bath. And I finally washed my hair.   :cheer:

Today...

1...had a meaningful visit with my therapist after a lengthy hiatus due to surgery which confined me to home for 6 weeks (seemed far longer).

2...expressed how awful my interior life has seemed lately (in addition to the expected post-surgery pain)...and at one point said something to the effect of "I just wish I had one sign to go by, something that tells me in no uncertain terms: all is well...and will be".

3...driving home, I rounded a curve adjacent to a marsh. It's a lovely spot where I often see foxes. Today didn't see any; but as I rounded the corner, about 2 miles from home, there was a flash of white that appeared from the woods on the eastern ridge to my right.

Soon it was easy to decipher the distinctive colors and shape of a bald eagle--my 'totem' animal--the one whose beauty and symbolism I relate to above all others.

So I slowed the vehicle, when the eagle dropped right onto the road in front of me. No carrion there to collect or anything--it just landed, looked knowingly at me, and then off to the western ridge high into a lofty tree, where from its perch, it looked back at me. It was an expression that I'll never forget. It reassured me, and if put into words, would say: "All is well...all will be well."

And then it flew up again, gracefully soaring into the distance high above the woods.

1) I spent a long time today just sitting watching my pets and talking to them. Also giving them a fun time - I took them into the garden.

2) The one pet who needs medication in the form of a 15 minute foot bath takes it well and calmly.

3) My neighbours invited me to join them in the garden for a meal

Thank you all for posting in here and keeping this one going while I am gone and struggling. It has been beautiful to go through and read this today. Thank you so much for that.

1. I have a new job, yet again (reason is in my journal)
2. I finally got to have a break today
3. I am working on feeling like myself again
Title: Re: Three good things a day

In past couple of days:
1) Yesterday I discovered that my rose has bloomed again, and there are more buds. When it stopped flowering maybe 6 weeks ago, I cut it back a bit. Then I thought: wrong time of year. But it wasn't! The flower is there to show me. It has a lovely perfume and a pretty red and white stripe. ('Variegated' is maybe the word?)

2) I had a bath at a friend's-who-is-on-holiday.
3) I had enough energy (I don't always) to go over and have a bath.
4) One of the rabbits I'm looking after for the friend-on-holiday allowed me to stroke him for minutes on end.

5) I didn't collapse with devastation when I gave my own pets up today. I was sad, I am sad, I allowed myself time and space to mourn, but I also kept going. I did things that were healing and nice for me today, but I also did things I'm 'meant' to, like take my meds.

I logged out and then realised I hadn't written on here, which I'd intended to, and probably even need as a way to focus on the positive.

1) I went out into the garden barefoot to hang up the washing.
2) The washing I hung out yesterday evening was dry already.
3) I sang to some of my favourite CDs - they are healing ones - while washing a stack of dishes and cleaning up in the kitchen.
That's enough. The thread is entitled: Three Good Things.
4) I took my meds, both types. Haven't been too good with that recently. But today

1. My son is here for a visit, all 4 of us together under one roof. Feels great.

2. The sun is warm, I'm sitting in it in my open doorway.this morning.

3. I am who I am and not who people think I am.

That sounds great for both of you, 3Roses and Elphanigh!

Two more:
I made myself some more lemon/mint water
I had another bath at friend's-who-is-on-holiday. I actually feel cleaner. (Who would've thought?). It feels good.

For today:
1) I imagined doing EFT today while I was cycling to stop the constant self-recrimination about having gone back to sleep and so running late for my sort of volunteer job
2) Doing EFT in my head worked!
3) I had a good day at the volunteer job, working with lots of different people, including a child who was 'helping'.  I managed not to get ratty with him!
4) Nice cycle home again in the warm evening sun through pretty landscape

The three things I'm grateful for today:

Owning a car
Sam cuddles xxx
Friends who help out - a friend is going to feed Sam while I'm away overnight

I'm really glad this thread is here. Thankyou to the person who started it. I started a MBSR course here and it also gets us to do 3 Good things at the end of the day. The course says we can rewire our brains by practicing noticing good things. I am hoping to do this.

Today's good vibes:

1. Received invite to dinner in couple days from an old acquaintance I haven't seen in 20+ years who's been trying to find me again.

2. This is on the heels of another recent dinner with people I've known several years, but don't see that often (I think my image as a rugged loner has distanced them but not sure; irrelevant now, but typical).

3. I'm getting the impression, at last,  that I've had quite a positive effect on several people but my old avoidance habit kept me back. I'll never be a socialite but finding ways to be closer with people who I care about seems both viable and good for me. Slow going, but one step...

1) We had a mega-session in therapy this morning, my therapist and I that is. I feel blown away, but it's good
2) It's a very summery summer day and I allowed myself to stay at the lake shore standing in the water or in the nearby park reading and writing and then wandering through an old part of the town instead of coming home and 'doing something useful'.
3) Drinking my homemade lemon and mint water is very refreshing.

Heh, thanks for bringing this one up. It gave me a flashback of the 'simpler' times of my childhood, wandering through a rain forest with the sounds of a waterfall nearby, just taking a moment to sit back and enjoy the surrounds, feeling at peace in my own solitude.

Glad you could have a nice little outing. :) And a good therapy session!

Thank you AphoticAtramentous! Your memory of the rainforest walk with waterfall nearby sounds lovely too.

For today:
1) I was able to remove a small cat from where it had seemingly got stuck. Since I'm nervous of cats (don't ask), this was a good feat for me
2) I've had a lot of nice little chats with people today, mostly who I just bumped into. There are some days where I don't speak to anybody till the evening, so nice change
3) I'm getting on quite well with cleaning, tidying and odd jobs today.
4) I really don't miss my pets as much as I thought I would, and one is re-homed already (!), I saw on the website. I feel somehow I now have more time, energy and even money for the significant child in my life, my godson.

Good job on all those things though! :D I'm happy for you.

My own three good things:
#1. Just like you Blueberry, I was actually able to hold a few chats and conversations today. :) Was at work, getting to know my coworkers a little better. Made me feel a little less anti-social. lol
#2. My closest friend came back from a business trip so we can spend more time with each other like usual.  :cheer: Yay for being less lonely.
#3. Read more of Pete Walker's stuff, ending up having another crying meltdown but tears are a part of the healing process supposedly so I guess that's good!

It warms my heart this morning to see how much this is still getting used
Here are some good things to start my day as it is just after 8a.mm here

1. The city skyline is beautiful as the sun comes up on the morning. Riding the bus meant I got to see it today.

2. Kindness of many of my friends reminding me that I will be okay.

3. Honestly, reading this thread and seeing that I started something good.

4. The kindness and warmth of this forum. It is always a place I can come and feel welcome

It was a wonderful idea, Elphanigh. :) Thank you for making it.
Really helps me to stop and observe the good things every now and then.

#1. Even though I got woken up to come into work and fill a shift, it was an extremely enjoyable shift. I'm communicating more and more with my coworkers and it's nice to have that interaction with people. I live in a city with just my FOO, no friends or other relatives around, so my coworkers (and therapist) are the only enjoyable face-to-face chats I can get. ^^"

#2. I think I just need to appreciate that things could be so much worse for me. Whilst yes I have this c-ptsd and not so pleasant company at home, I still have a roof over my head and a job to go to, so I can afford food and just generally - I can live. So I'm being grateful today! :)

#3. I managed to get a dentist appointment moved to a day where I'm available, which puts a bit of stress off of me. Small thing but good thing! It's weird but I'm actually looking forward to it, my current dentist is the nicest dentist I've had in my entire life! Haha

3. I get to rebuild a friendship

1) I had a bath where I still could before friends-on-holiday got home tonight. I also washed my hair and feel much better for being clean
2) I had a good visit yesterday and today with my godson's family, especially with his mother whom I hadn't seen in person for months
3) I'm allowing myself to write just two things because putting a third into words is making me run my hands through my hair. Allowing myself imperfection in order not to do self-injury is more important than having a third Good Thing.
Title: Re: Three good things a day
Post by: woodsgnome on September 05, 2017, 03:48:20 AM
Blueberry, what a beautiful summation of how we can all practice an important part of this journey. We're always struggling to get it right or perfect. Of course this trait is a holdover from days when we were convinced by others that we were less than beautiful for who we are.

Your words say it so well -- about "Allowing myself imperfection in order not to do self-injury is more important than having a third Good Thing."  :yeahthat:

What you didn't know is that writing that was indeed a third Good Thing, as it's something I needed to hear today, and will strive to remember when life drags me down and I kick myself for not being better.

So...THANK YOU!!!

You're very welcome, Woodsgnome. That's what this forum seems to be partly about - inspiring each other with healing, bouncing healing ideas off each other, so to speak.

THANK YOU too for commenting, because that way I know somebody else read it and understood what was such an important step for me.

Today's:
1) I had another really good session in T. Things are starting to fit together a lot, and in the space of 50 minutes we can fit in 3 or 4 or even more topics.
2) I'm beginning to forgive myself for this and that in the present. This is HUGE progress.
3) The day started out grey and coldish but shortly after T was over, the sun came out and I sat by the lakeside writing my diary with realisations from T and comments / explanations from my therapist. I definitely prefer that to writing indoors.

4) I made it to choir practice tonight, which I don't always.
5) I'm starting to sing with gusto, whether or not I hit the right notes. (The fact that I can't reliably has a lot to do with emotional abuse and trauma.) So it's real progress that I've just recently stopped being so self-conscious and apologetic.

6) I was helping my refugee neighbours yesterday and tonight, because they'd got themselves in a bit of a fix. And they were so worried and into so much self-blame tonight that I asked them if their God would forgive them or if he's more a punitive kind. And they answered, beaming, that he forgives, and so I was able to pass on my new-found thing: self-forgiveness. And for myself, I was able to feel that I reached across a cultural and religious divide to help somebody in need, but without stressing myself out totally.

1. I sat in the garden in the sun enjyoing the warmth and all the colours - most of the trees are still green, but there's a creeper of some sort turned mostly maroon going up a white wall. The sky is blue, and there are still some flowers around, orange, blue, pink, yellow.
2. Allowing myself to go into the garden at all instead of staying inside.
3. My neighbours are leaving me in peace for the most, so I don't even have to practise saying "No".

Oh dear, it's me again. I'm a little embarrassed but going to post anyway
1. My T is actually continuing on a little longer than end March 2018 and has in principle OKed the idea that once my current sessions come to an end (in 5 or 6 weeks) I can keep going for a while at the rate of 3 sessions per quarter year. This is a relief because I don't think I'll be quite through with things to enable basic functioning and professional work by end November of this year.
2. I visited the aquarium after therapy today (as intended last week and not done) and stood watching fish, seahorses, jellyfish, stingrays etc etc meditatively for a good few hours.
3. I listened and sang to my healing CD.
4. Therapy didn't take as much out of me today as I had envisaged.

90% of the year it's rainy, windy, snowy, or just cloudy. :D So on the rare 10% of the year where it does get sunshine - it's wonderful. Especially during atumn with all the vibrant autumn colours  ;)

Getting art printed and it looks FINE, is amazing feeling! Hang on to it. You've done great

1. I had the energy to make a cake today which I've been intending to make for a few days
2. I did some tidying and washed the dishes.
3. I finally had a shower and washed my hair, and feel much better on account of it.
4. I played my healing CD really loudly while I was in the shower so I could hear it above the running of the water, and I sang to it too. (That's big progress because I'm frightened of 'disturbing the neighbours' and of 'being heard' - in both cases a projection. I am of course in a semi-EF in both cases.) I have never sang that loudly in the shower before, maybe hummed along a little bit, but sang, no.

lol Blueberry, I was coincidentally eating cake just as I read about you making a cake.  Nice to hear you've got things tidy and clean. :) I find a clean body/environment really helps my overall mood.

#1. Finished with work for the day so I have the rest of the afternoon to just relax.
#2. I drafted a letter to my biological father and his family (the few non abusive relatives I have), just to say thank you and "I want to visit you guys more often". Will tidy it up and send it along with a box of goodies for the kids. :)
#3. At work I had a customer who looked a lot like a good friend I know, it made me feel way more elated than it should have. Haha

"got things tidy and clean" is a bit of an exaggeration. That's more or less never the case. But it is good if I manage to keep going bit by bit. So maybe one room is tidy and clean. Atm even that is unfortunately not the case.

Good Things Today
1) I am able to sit at the computer again for a while, which I couldn't yesterday
2) I slept most of the day, which I really needed.
3) A friend phoned unexpectedly, which was nice because I had been feeling a bit lonely

Way to go, Aphotic  :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: I'm so glad you have some money to get your artwork professionally printed, and that not all your money has to be spent on food. Also it's great that you're getting your artwork printed   :applause: :applause: and that it looks so good.
Your other two points are really good progress too.

1) I stopped writing a post on FOO stuff as soon as I noticed it was getting too much for me. I didn't delete it, I posted it. I can then continue it another time. The good thing is that I noticed it was getting too much. I did not go over my limit.  :cheer:

2) I tried some more Screen Processing earlier. Even though I felt I hadn't done it properly and it didn't work out, I now know that it did. Otherwise I wouldn't have been able to write the above-mentioned post at all.

3) I overcame my inner hurdle and did some water-colour painting today

4) I had a bath over at friends-on-holiday's house and felt so relaxed I even fell asleep briefly.

2) Overtime is being allowed to get it all done.
3) My husband and son are trying to understand and be supportive.

1. I worked on part of my job application and sent it to a friend to proof-read.
2. I set a limit today, even though I felt guilty, the limit was 'heard' and the people got help elsewhere, which I pointed out to them: See that's somebody else you can ask now.
3. I dropped by on a friend and we had a good chat about all sorts of non-deep subjects, such as watching animal antics. It was good, I should do that more often.
4. I played a little keyboard and sang.

That's really nice Blueberry.  ;D Do you make your own music or play/sing songs by other artists? Just a curious question. :)

My own good things things, though I'm struggling a little to come up with a few...
#1. I bought a broad italic nib for my calligraphy pen and it finally arrived in the post. I dunno, there's something relaxing and calming about writing calligraphy... it looks and feels nice. :)
#2. My biological father messaged me today which I will reply to soon. It's nice to know he's thinking of me as I think of him.
I don't have a third thing but I'll maybe come edit this post later and add something. :)

Aphotic, I don't make my own music at all. Just play whatever I have music for and sing along to myself.

Today:
1) I feel more energy and more impulse to actually do things.
2) Cleared a few things out of my apartment e.g. deposit bottles back and various bits to second-hand shop.
3) I applied for a part-time job.

Yesterday
1) I took a walk in a place that's special to me
2) I attended my aunt's birthday party
3) I drove my other aunt and cousin home afterwards to which they were grateful.

Today:
1) I enjoyed the sun
2) I went to the gym and had a really good workout.
3) Called the group leader and asked for advice

1) The sun is shining, including on the lovely autumn foliage, and it is warm

2) I finally took my bike to the bike shop for a quick repair.

3) Took my other bike, which I haven't ridden for about 3 years, too and now I'm back on it. It feels great!

4) Did some gardening.

1) Another sunny day and the evening even feels like a summer evening, it's still so warm.
2) I planted some more weeds in pots for the winter and sowed some seeds.
3) I had a surge of energy for part of the day and got most things done on my list.

1) In therapy I turned self-hatred into hatred of FOO and I felt it too, not just words!
2) I expressed hatred to each person in FOO in turn, loudly, clearly and in a comprehensible manner
3) My feelings of hatred towards FOO are understandable and allowed - my T did not try to diminish anything as has happened in past ("Now, now, anger is OK, but hatred is maybe a bit strong") No, none of that.
4) I feel energised.
5) And it's even a lovely warm sunny day on top of all that.

Good to hear all this, Blueberry. :) Nice to know your T doesn't mind your hatred. I think hatred can be valuable at times, really helps you to keep away from people like that.

#1. Work went okay today, no major complaints.
#2. Actually feels like Spring finally, 21 degree Celsius night and I'm loving it. :)
#3. It's my good mate's birthday today and I'm just enjoying his company, playing games together. It's nice to 'be in the moment' like this, be able to push all other worries and thoughts aside and focus on something else, something happier.
#4. Despite having a terrible night's sleep and needing to work, I managed to find time to draw something for my mate's birthday. And he liked it so that's good. ^-^
#5. Even the mere thought of having a day off tomorrow and having the time to work on some hobby projects makes me rather content.

Being able to feel hatred towards the people who did so many things to me is so important and valuable because I've been turning it on myself for decades, partially as self-harm, partially in other ways.

More good things:
6) I biked from A to B, because needed to get somewhere, and enjoyed the ride on top of it
7) Cleared out some stuff I don't need and took some borrowed stuff back somewhere else - this is clearing space for me, a symbolic act too.
8 ) I told my neighbours I'm not helping them on Friday after all and I don't feel bad about it. I'm OK with it. I'm going to work on the farm instead and have decided that's more important to me.

3) I went to a surprise party for a friend of mine who's turning 30 - and we had such a nice time!

Wonderful to hear, Blueberry! It's good to be active like that, helps a lot I think.

#1. My sister has moved out of my room today which means I have a bedroom to myself finally! And as a bonus, because her bed is no longer in my room, I'm able to fit my piano in my room now! ;D
#2. Music is really nice. I've found a few songs that really resonate with me, just their melodies alone. :)

#1. I finished the longest shift I've ever worked today.  And I didn't wimp out of it haha. I'm super tired but that's alright. I'll get plenty of rest, and I have a day off tomorrow which is nice.
#2. I'm very close to finishing my new piano composition. I just need to figure out how to get the piano connected to my computer and then I can record it!
#3. By some weird miracle I managed to strike up a conversation with someone who helped me set up my new computer. Our conversations have flowed really well and it's nice to be able to talk to someone new like this. I don't have any friends in my town, so if all goes well, maybe I'll finally have one. :)

1. Cleared some drooping branches along the driveway that were about to fall over the road.

2. Cleaned out some junk and hauled it to the area's trash collection centre.

3. Met with a singer/songwriter and planted seeds about collaborating on some music for fun and potential performances next summer at a nearby park. Creative sparks, especially in the performance arts, were once a  big part of how I coped with cptsd for many years; but I'm officially 'retired' and thus limited in where I can get involved again, so end up just hanging back even when I know I could contribute.

I'm an isolated "freeze" type of survivor and tend not to reach out even when I could. So this potential meaningful collaboration is a hopeful step as I seek to reach beyond my almost total social isolation (admittedly self-induced but powerful). There's more steps in the frying pan, as it were, but I'm feeling better about stretching that self-limiting side of me.

Good stuff Movington and Blueberry!

1) I went to group therapy yesterday and it went well

1) Yesterday evening I went to an entertainment of choir and sketches/political parody.  I hadn't felt very good most of yesterday - still a bit wobbly, not quite in the real world etc but I enjoyed the evening anyway and laughed myself silly at some of the sketches

2) which showed me that there is still a part of me enjoying being in and capable of functioning in the Real World (something I had been doubting since Monday morning)

3) Despite today being a public holiday, I overcame my inhibitions and dropped by on a friend, smelling the roses on the way (literally!), and had a good chat about all sorts of stuff and plants and animals.

1) I got out of bed and went to join a group of women I sometimes meet up with. I was late, but I went at all.

2) One woman there means well (I think) but tends to berate me on not turning up to this or that. I was pretty sure she would do so about me not turning up to something else on Wed. But I went today anyway. And when she brought up the subject i shut her up with one polite but factual sentence.

3) I came home determined to calculate something business-wise that i've been putting off for weeks. So I'm going to do that now.

My three things are from this past week

1) I applied for compensation through a victims' advocacy service. I could get as much as $10k if they approve it!

2) I overcame the urge to hurt myself without needing outside support.

3) I made some really good progress in a project I've been stuck on for quite a while.

1. Was asked if I'd consider taking part in an intensive therapy group by the therapist leading it ("you add so much")...considering, but not sure due to other considerations; just nice to be asked in a direct way.

2. Heard, out of the blue, from someone I gelled well with many years back. Though we drifted apart, he ended by saying "I don't know how many people have ever told you this, but you're a special person; you need to know that."

3. Made it through another month of bills but qualified for heating assistance payments.

I haven't posted here in a long time. I  am so grateful that you have all helped keep this thread alive. It still surprises me just how much this became a part of this forum. Thank you all. I haven't been in a place to participate much recently, but I am hopeful that I can again soon. I feel the need to post some good here.

1. I allowed myself to truly start writing my paper for admissions into graduate school.
2. I am fully participating in therapy, and in a stable enough place I can intensely work on ego state therapy
3. I gained an understanding into my younger self that I was previously missing

Thank you for starting it, Elphanigh.

1.) Me and my T threw a ball to each other in therapy today. It was oddly comforting and grounding, not to say surrealistic
2.) My application to participate with art for a gallery show in 2018 is one step closer. ( I wont know until January if I'm actually going to be allowed to show my art - also.. have to make it first)
3.) I dyed my hair ginger today

songbirdrosa and Elphanigh, that sounds like awesome progress you're both making!  :cheer: And woodsgnome - sounds like good things happening  :cheer:

My 3 Good Things:

1) I'm making progress, which I wrote about in my Journal
2) I went to chat to a volière full of birds today
3) I made the effort to go to choir practice.

1. Very solid therapy session where progress seemed real, and even I can sense it. Putting into practice what I'm learning remains the challenge.

2. Heard from someone I needed to per an upcoming decision.

3. The rickety car held up for another day.

That's great, Blueberry and W.G!  :cheer:

My 3 Good things :

1. Had some intense flashbacks today but calmed down soon when I went to learn my hobbies.

2. Did some work with my  current hobbies. Almost finished the programming course on Python online. Finished learning Hiragana, a Japanese alphabet and moved on to Katakana.

3. I was able to catch up with my Precalcalus classes I kept missing due to mental and physical health issues and will move to Calcalus soon. The math is beautiful — bless my nerdy heart!

1) I finally had a shower but allowed myself a compromise and didn't wash my hair
2) I visited a bunch of Little Furry Critters of the type I gave up
3) I biked there and back
Title: Re: Three good things a day

1) I got out of bed
2) I washed the kitchen floor for the first time since the Little Furry Critters moved out and did some other cleaning which is making me feel better
3) I rubbed some skin cream into the skin of my feet, which is terribly dry. A little bit of self-care with the scent of rose.  :)

I think the scent of a rose on your feet with the foot cream sounds really nice.  I have some Rose scented cream that I put on my hands sometimes, and I feel like it really helps me to feel 'good'.  Blueberry - I must stop by here and think of 3 good things in a day too - it is lovely to read the ones you've done, as well as those of other people - a great thread.

Hope  :)

1) I cycled to the farm today and it didn't even rain
2) Other than my normal work at the farm, I had to do some cleaning but somebody helped me with it. Cleaning is something I have difficulty with - often a bit EF-like, so somebody volunteering to help was so good.
3) For the first time I actually made it by 6am instead of 6:30.  :cheer:
4) The sun was shining when I cycled home again.
5) I cleared up a problem I had with somebody at the farm   which is very important because when there are problems between me and somebody I react with even more fatigue than usual.

1) Had a shower today and finally washed my hair. I feel more human due to this  ;)
2) I allowed myself to act on my impulses today and do what I wanted rather than what I thought I should do.
3) I played keyboard for a bit and sang. It was difficult - making sounds, I could be heard... but I did it because I wanted to.
4) Started writing Letters to Not Send to FOO and crying, which makes me feel lighter.

From last little while:

1) Last week I finally phoned for a doc appointment
2) Today i've been allowing myself to do what actually feels right in the moment and not what I think I should do.
3) Found the type of music that's good for me to listen to and move around to today.

1) Went to walk in nature with my support person rather than working out at an inside, sweaty gym. Nice fresh air, and lovely nature. Even snow and icy pathways.
2) I had my family birthday dinner today - it went okay. Better than what I feared
3) I am actively talking against my IC today

#1. I finished my work shift this afternoon and I don't have a shift tomorrow so I have a small while to just relax and rest off my feet.
#2. I managed to draw for 30 minutes today.
#3. I was able to ignore my FOO's comments today and keep my self esteem up.

1. I'm binge watching an action show. It's so exciting! Haha.
2. I got to have a good laugh with a friend by making a joke about how chicken is the answer to life and created a guide on the "Refined Art of Eating Chicken".
3. I get to read my books recently. The novel "The Kitchen God's Wife", a systems thinking textbook and a book about money. I don't know why I suddenly have the urge to read money when I have no use for it — Eh, I don't know — I read from every part of the bookstore.

I'm going to try this here to keep myself accountable. Here goes:

1. I created an account here to participate after lurking forever
2. My dog is sleeping next to me and just sighed contentedly
3. I unloaded the dishwasher

Welcome! :) Well done on the chores there, even the most simple of tasks can feel like such an effort.

#1. I had a customer today pitch in a good word to my manager about me. I'm apparently quite friendly so, that's nice. :)
#2. I just feel thankful that painkillers exist. lol I hate being bedridden and not being able to do anything, but the painkillers make it possible for me to be productive!
#3. It feels nice to be back on the forum. Last time I think I was feeling a bit pressured to try and read every single new post on the forum but I'm starting to realise that's a lot of reading! ;) So I'm going to try and take it all a bit more easy and not turn this into some kind of chore like I do with a lot of things. lol

Hey Smellycat, glad you're here to participate. Hope you're getting some good support in this place. It's often a nice feeling to many after accomplishing chores and pets can be a great friend to many people.

Aa, haha. Yeah . . . When I left here for a few days, I kept pressuring myself to answer to other's posts here too. I guess we're a bunch who tends to push ourselves too hard and I hope we can figure out how to take it easy. I heard you were getting independent from your FOO and I hope that's going well.

Okay, my 3 good things today :

1. I spent time doodling things during Quantitative research class — including a disco ball the shape of a strawberry and someone's barf being turned into a swimming pool and a shoe bullet and showed it to a friend. This guy was getting bullied in class so I drew him with abs, muscles and shades to look hardcore — he liked it. Haha.
2. I kept missing Calcalus class because of fatigue either from my SPD, flashbacks or lack of sleep.. I found a book that includes Calculus in cartoon comics. I knew it was a good book when it showed a function as a strange creature that devoured numerical values and farted out resulting numbers . This book .  . . is a miracle.
3. I've been eating delicious waffles with cream cheese every night these days. It used to be garlic bread with cream cheese and it was a  bagel with cream cheese before. Uhh . . . Cream cheese is good comfort food afrer flashbacks.

I love coming back and reading this thread when I have been away.  :cheer: You are all doing such wonderful good things.

1. I made it through working nearly 30 hours in two days. Exhausted but I have made it to the other side.  :cheer:
2. I stood up for my needs today by not going into work when they called me, I was not scheduled and needed the rest to be my best for the rest of the week. Feeling progress that I can tell them no.
3. My family sent a package. Everyone put a letter and one item in the box, it was kind of a mini thanksgiving for me

Hey Elphanigh, you're making some progress here. :) Sorry you had to work so hard, but it looks like you got a nice treat from your family.

My 3 good things :

1. Finally finished up my Precalcalus class requirements I missed with a 4 hour remedial. I've done 8 pages of math in there which I don't mind. Solving equations is really . . . mesmerizing.
2. I was able to say that I was tired and need a break — and delegated some of my Earth Science project work to other people. I've gifted myself with lots of naps in result.
3. I was able to recharge with a lot of solitude today — having to talk to too many people for groupworks in classes has been fun but really exhausting for me.

In the last 24 hours:
1. I showered and changed my sheets
2. I followed up some calls I'd been putting off
3. It's sunny after grey gloominess for days
Title: Re: Three good things a day

1) I got some supportive replies on here
2) I made myself some nice hot chamomile and mint tea

1. Making it through a storm to the calm on the other side.
2. Reaching out in that storm and finding I wasn't alone
3. Waking from a long, deep sleep to a peaceful morning
Title: Re: Three good things a day

Thanks for seeing my progress D.R.  I am really so in need of a day off, and a break... but that is just not in the cards for me at this moment. So more hard work it is. Here are some good things in all the work

1. I got three great reviews from people at work. They came from the busy Wed/thurs I worked for the holiday. So I managed to go above and beyond even in the craziness
2. It is cloudy and about 65 degree here today. I adore this weather
3.i got to celebrate Friendsgiving yesterday. This is our version of Thanksgiving, so it gave me a chance to celebrate the holidays. Made my heart stop aching

@Decimal: I find solving equations quite mesmerising as well. :) I think I was the one kid in school who loved maths. haha  All those things sound great though! Very nice self-care!
@Habitudell: So wonderful to hear! Getting things done, love it!
@Blueberry: I'm glad you've got the support. :) Your support here is much appreciated too.
@Radical: Nice to know you're feeling more at peace. And you're right, you're not alone!
@Elphanigh: I could go for some of that weather right about now! Haha. I'm so happy that you were able to celebrate your own little occasion though, very nice idea!

My three things:
#1. I shared my opinion on the forum even with the nagging voice telling me my words mean nothing. I need to remind myself that even if people may disagree with me, it doesn't mean I should be silent altogether.
#2. I got to sketch a little bit lately.
#3. After a few days of eating barely anything, I finally worked up the motivation to eat a proper meal and take my vitamins.

No, you don't need to be silent AphoticAtramentous!

My three things:
1) I got up today at a reasonable time and managed to start getting on with my day
2) I finally made an appointment at the dentist's - a new one who specialises in patients with anxiety - and I finally got a new prescription for my thyroid supplements. Two bits of self-care.
3) I went to a group for the long-term unemployed and spoke about some of the things going through my head about working or rather hardly being able to atm. That seems to have helped clear things a bit.

To Habitudell, yes, sometimes the simple things in life can be great, huh? It's great to see you recognize them.
To Blueberry, having support can be wonderful, isn't it? To feel validated and cared for. That's really something, huh?
To Radical, it sounds like you're feeling well. Calm after the storm? It's a great relief to have that feeling of rest after all that's happened.
To Elphanigh, seeing you around, I notice how dedicated you are to your work and relationships. It's really something.
To Aa, you seem like you're doing better in trust and self care. Hobbies can be nice to go back to in times of stress and it's great that you're able to do so.

.....

1. I was stressed out so I relaxed by applying Systems thinking to analyzing my life. In other words, I analyzed my life similar to a businessman studying market trends or an ecologist studying the relationships of different animals in an area. The analysis is  beautiful. . . so damn beautiful.

2. Someone sitting next to me in the school bus was getting taunted, bullied and criticized over and over — so I recorded the bully's voice to report him. Classic trick from tv shows, bwahahaha.

3. My hypervigilance and SPD was lessened today — usually this causes a hypersensitivity to noise so painful I have to leave the room. I was still sensitive but not as much that I need to leave what I need to do.

2. Today is the last day I work without a day off.m
3. The weather is still beautiful

Thank you AphoticAtramentous and DecimalRocket for your kind words.

Here are my three for today:
1. I talked with a very senior/established person in my industry who helped me realize a bunch of things about my career. I'm grateful that a) this person was available to me, and b) they gave me a bunch of positive feedback about work/my career and I was able to hear it for a few moments before the inner critic jumped in.
2. I saw my T today and even though we haven't yet had time to address a big issue between us, I still felt ok in the session and got some support from it. Maybe I'm coming out of a big abandonment EF too ...
3. I didn't self medicate with alcohol or food today.
