Title: Having trouble applying cbt
Post by: Inky on March 13, 2017, 01:38:19 AM
Does anyone have tips for someone who struggles with basic cbt to stop dissociation? I'll plunge into identifying three smells, three things I see, things I can touch, etc. but I get really bored and then distracted and I forget where I was and then I get frustrated... :stars:
Any help/guidance appreciated :)

I found no cognitive/behavioural or mindful-based solution that worked for for me dissociation.

I have found body work useful for putting me back into my body.  I like QiGong, but yoga, tai chi are great, also exercise that breaks  a sweat is can help break through.

I've also found a need to find ways to soothe the part that is too afraid to experience, like self talk (finding a type that works for you) building trust in relationships etc., is helpful.

I'm with radical. The problem is not in how we think, it's the effects that trauma has had on our physical brains. Physical, measurable changes can occur in the brain as a result of trauma - and can be reversed. But not by thinking differently.  ;)
