Hi,
Never been diagnosed with C-ptsd. Have been diagnosed with ADD. But the Ritalin didn't work. Now I read that it's mistaken for people who over use the Freeze response.
Reading about C-ptsd makes so much sense to me, but I really wish I'd known about it sooner. I'm 50 years old, and have gotten a lot better without a psychologist to help me. There was one psychologist when I was in college who helped me be aware of feelings. But other than that, psychologists were at a loss with me. The thing that really help me was falling in love when I was 28. I realized that falling in love is not about the other person... it's all about you... you think that finally there is a person who will love you for exactly who you are... and that makes you lovable. When I did that, I came out of the fog.
I still have problems with excessive shyness. But maybe attacking it from a C-ptsd frame of mind would help?
Hello and welcome! We're happy you're here :)
Welcome to our site, and please know that we don't consider you "old." I didn't become aware of my cptsd until I was 53, and have been working on myself for 4 years now. Many of us are over 50.
Hope you get some great things out of our site, and glad to have you aboard!
Hi LaurelLeaves  and welcome.

It sure may be a fresh avenue of pursuit. Feel free to post in the sections you feel are relevant to your experiences.
I hope there will be areas on this board that may help you in recovery.
Welcome again,

Hello LaurelLeaves,
I too am in my fifties and new here. I am interested in the 'freeze response' that you mentioned.
I'm pretty sure I used that from being a very little girl.
I'm glad you're here!
Hi Weatherbeaten  and welcome.
The "Freeze" response is a reference to a typology of instinctive responses people (and other animals) can have in reaction to sudden, traumatic events.
Here is a thread on it: Peter Walker On Freeze (http://outofthefog.net/C-PTSD/forum/index.php?topic=52.msg187#msg187) which contains a link to the website of Pete walker, who has written an excellent book on cPTSD.
If you search the site for "Freeze", you will find more threads on the subject, and member's experiences with it.
Welcome again and I hope and trust this site and community will be of aid in your journey through cPTSD.

Dutch Uncle.
Thank you all for welcoming me here.
