Title: hello, newbie here
Post by: talizorah on February 15, 2016, 03:19:24 PM
Hi, I'm pretty new to OOTS. I lurked without registering for a few days but finally decided to just do it and make an account. I have been diagnosed with C-PTSD recently after having finally been able to leave the home I was abused in a couple of months ago. I am still pretty terrified of my diagnosis and am still coming to terms with it but I am ready to move forward with my life and begin healing from a lifetime of abuse. I am pretty lonely most of the time and was hoping to find a community of people who 'get' it. Anyways, I am a bit shy so introducing myself is always hard and nervous-making for me.

Thank you for reading.   :)

Hi talizorah

Welcome to Out of the Storm! Since you have identified yourself as someone suffering from Complex Post Traumatic Disorder, or CPTSD, we want to make you aware of a couple things as you settle in.
In the  cPTSD Glossary (http://outofthefog.net/C-PTSD/OOTS_Glossary.html) you may find a lot that may resonate with your experiences. A few highlights to start your journey with:
On cPTSD (http://outofthefog.net/C-PTSD/index.html)
On Boundaries (http://www.outofthefog.net/CommonNonBehaviors/Boundaries.html)
One that has been of great value to me personally is: Learned Helplessness (http://outofthefog.net/CommonNonBehaviors/LearnedHelplessness.html)

Welcome again, I hope and wish this place and community will give you the company of people who 'get it' you look for, and be of aid on your journey through cPTSD, our Guidelines for All Members and Guests (http://outofthefog.net/C-PTSD/forum/index.php?topic=1616.0) may help you in keeping this a safe environment for you and us and will give you an idea of the community we create with each other.

Dutch Uncle.

HI Talizorah and a very warm welcome to OOTS    Take your time and post when you are ready.  It's a big thing to find out you have CPTSD and certainly it does take courage to come here and talk about it so kudos to you for doing so.   :applause:   Rest assured we do all get it as I'm sure you'll find out soon enough, and there are lots of resources here to help you.  You'll probably notice that many of us talk about having to take baby steps and breaks as it's a lot to digest so if you find this please know it's a common reaction.

Again welcome to the community and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions
