Title: EMotional Flashbacks and sleep
Post by: sigiriuk on August 15, 2020, 09:24:36 PM
I have long-standing sleep problems.
I deliberately try to stop myself sleeping, and get quite panicky. I overstimulate myself, think about big problems
I think it's an emotional flashback....terrified of going to sleep, because god-knows-what will happen to me.

I have the same problem Slim although not sure quite why as I don't have a lot of nightmares.  I've come to think it has something to do with the executive part of me that keeps me safe, grounded becoming hypervigilant/hyperaroused b/c it has to let go of control.  :Idunno:

Anyway, I've started talking to it and trying to reassure it sleep is a good thing, nothing will happen if it shuts down for the night, etc.  Seems to be helping although like anything with CPTSD slowly.  :snort:

Hi Kizzie
Sounds about right to me.
And yes...slowly!
Heard a good saying today in a "School of Life" video: "The kind inner voice should be the sort of person that will put their arm around your shoulders, and reassure you"
